The Enneagram

Enneagram Mistypes

Some types look almost identical from the outside — same behavior, opposite reasons. These are the pairs people most often confuse, and how to tell which one is you.

Why look-alikes happen

The Enneagram sorts by motivation, not behavior — and the same behavior can come from very different places. A cautious perfectionist could be a Type 1 measuring against an inner standard or a Type 6 bracing against risk; a driven achiever could be a Type 3 chasing success or a Type 8 taking control. The surface matches; the engine underneath does not.

Each page below names the core difference between a commonly-confused pair, gives you the few tells that actually separate them, and lays the two side by side — so you can check the result against yourself instead of taking it on faith.

These are the documented-confusion pairs the instrument builds dedicated tie-breakers for. The test itself scores all nine at once and, when two run close, shows you exactly where they land.

Not sure which one is you? 10–12 minutes — and you'll know how sure to be.
